Not be in a no-spell area that nukes his healing during a fight for starters.

Any spell options he had as a ranger were gone the moment he picked the recruiting center. Sure, it's home terrain, and probably worked out better from a melee perspective with the rebounds, but there are a few other cave rooms there that would have worked better and allowed him to heal and cast spells.

As a hiding class, you're going to be called a pussy for taking advantage of the skill-set, but it's there for a reason. If you didn't start the fight, hide, prep, and then re-engage when it's to your advantage. If it's not to your advantage, leave off and be patient. Of course, that takes patience, and is exactly why I'm a hypocrite. I can't wait either.
