From the helpfile:
"Certain characters may use this command to request items worn by or in the
inventory of a willing NPC. Good-aligned characters may use this command
to request items from good-aligned NPCs, and Outlanders may request items
from certain NPCs that share their affinity for nature, with the exception of those
of a dark heart who lack the generosity to forfeit their belongings.
Response to a request represents an NPC's trust in the specific character making
that request, and making requests for others is considered an abuse of that trust.
Abuse of the request command in this manner is subject to consequences."
If you notice the latter part there, "making requests for others is considered an abuse of that trust." Imagine if someone walked up to you and asked you for something. You feel good about that person and decide you can part with that something and hand it over. Next thing you know, that person gives the something away to someone else, someone you have never seen before. How would you feel about it? Request is a special case, I dont think anyone can argue that a goodie giving away stuff he got from killing a dragon or something is bad but asking a goodie for items just to hand them over to a lowbie...not quite the same.
I'm not really sure how to deal with the situation where you request an item and use it for a while. When you later find something better and replace it, what should you do with the requested item? Go back to the npc and give it back or sac it? I personally find another goodie char and give it to them or leave it in a cabal pit or something. But some people, like Murphy, seem to frown on it because it goes against the trust part of request and I can sort of agree with that.
