A Cluttered Passage 
  This is a narrow tunnel delved through native rock.  The walls show marks
of ancient and recent mining operations.  The rough stone floor shows marks
of occasional transit, and is littered with small stones that have become
dislodged from the walls and ceiling.  Pieces of splintered wood litter the
area as the passage has been partially reinforced by wooden beams.  To the
west is the path to the surface and to the east the passage continues.

A Wide Cave 
  The cave extends north and deeper into the bowels of the hill, while the
stairs lead back to the surface.  Another tunnel branches to the east, and
a short distance to the north is another cave branching off to the west.
The cave seems to have recently been the site of much activity as a large
stack of recently cut timbers has been stacked here.

  A large area of the ground has collapsed and formed a cave opening that
extends downward into the base of a hill.  The debris from the collapse has
been mostly cleared away, though there are several piles of small stones
nearby.  A wooden stairway showing signs of recent construction descends
into the sinkhole.  To the south is the path back to the palisade.

A Cleared Area in the Wood 
  The forest has been cleared of all trees in this area, so only stumps
remain.  Many of the logs have already been set vertically into holes in
the ground to form the beginnings of a palisade and gate that have their
flanks anchored against the cut rock face of the hill.  While not complete,
a good amount of work has already been accomplished, and the partial log
walls look to be a good ten feet in height.  Noticeable on the top of the
walls are several humanoid and animal skulls that have been placed on small
wooden spears.  Near the wall, three crude wooden gallows have been
constructed from cut trees.  Three dead kobolds hang by the neck from ropes
attached to the gallows.  Beyond the northern opening in the wooden wall, a
fair- sized dark hole can be seen in the ground and several rocky
outcroppings and hills lay beyond.  To the south is the path to return to
the woods.  A makeshift sign has been placed to the right of the partially
completed gate opening.

A Path Through the Forest 
  The sounds of many axes echo through the forest.  Apparently, something or
someone had crashed through the woods, breaking and splintering trees in
its passing.  Signs of logging are all about the area as some of the broken
trees have been cut into smaller logs and dragged to the north.  The ground
is marked with numerous small footprints, that vaguely resemble bipedal
dogs.  To the south is the main east-west path through the forest, and the
trail of footprints and wood leads to the north.  A small wooden sign has
been posted along the northern trail.

A Path Through the Feanwyyn Weald 
  A narrow forest path bends here, meandering through the Feanwyyn Weald to 
the east and south.  Tall, thin trunks loom to either side, faintly creaking 
together as a chill night breeze slices through the forest.  Sudden crackling 
and rustling in the black mat of fallen pine needles conjures images of 
creatures best left to childhood nightmares.  Thin tendrils of mist cling 
faintly to the pines in the darkness, wrapping them and you in their chill 
embrace.  A path has been trampled through the forest to the north.
