A Floating Island
Hovering majestically above the sea is this massive construct of
crystal, stone, and earth. The mass is semi-transparent in crystalline
fashion, streaked with opaque veins of mineral and magic alike. On
the underside of the island throbs of single orb of diamond and earth,
glowing with a mysterious energy. It almost appears to be two chunks
of distinct material, fused together through some intense refinery
process. This strange orb floats in mid air, surrounded by a corona
of magical light. It is on this, it seems, the entire structure rests;
an inverted, craggy cone whose entire weight is carried by this small
yet ever-significant focus.

It is immediately clear that this is no natural cavern. The space in which
you find yourself has been obviously hewn from the sea floor by a sizeable
excavating team. From the shovels and other pieces of mining and digging
equipment resting near the edges of the shaft, it appears that they are not
done yet. Above, a glass shaft can be seen, leading upward through the
dark waters of the Sea of Despair.
To the north, excavation has revealed the start of an arched passageway. A
shifting, shimmering veil of prismatic light hangs in the air, making it
impossible to venture north without touching it.
