Sodsob is likely kicking himself for not adding a new prep or two and lighting the place up with Fireballs rather than trying to escape. Sometimes that kind of decision is what makes all the difference. When first encountered he still likely had 1k or more hp and some protections up and should have been able to cause some pretty good damage via area spells but the worry for such a huge investment of time and effort into that weapon made his choice one of covetousness and was ultimately the wrong one but in 9 out of 10 times, may have been the right one. Maybe we'll never know what he thought but he's a tough cookie regardless.
