Define "use" or "need". There is literally nothing in a corpse that can't be used. First and most obvious, wearable gear upgrades. Universal agreement here. You're wearing charred bracers and sewer red dragon armor and the guy you just beat is rocking darkened armor and wide coppers? Time for the tried and true "rem all;drop all;g all corpse". I imagine nobody really disagrees with this.
Second, you're a battlerager, or a mage/nexus. You can use magical items, especially the veil moving items, either with Tahren or the couriers.
Third, they have monetary value either to sell or barter (barter only if you're outlander of course).
Fourth, your cabalmate was fulled recently and you are getting items for him. Similarly, you plan to put the items into your cabal pit for people you may never even see because you have different playtimes.
Fifth, you want to trade for better gear with the various thieves or anyone else who do gear trades/sales.
Sixth and, for now, finally... you just want to deprive your enemy of certain things. Things that maybe your role would determine (sac'ing an ap's weapon is the easy example, but there are a lot that fall into this category). Etc.
Separate from these, which are all really IC use issues, is at least one OOC point which is that particularly when the player base is somewhat contracted, gear circulation is disproportionately impacted, because limits are much reduced. Where there maybe used to be 10 gleaming silver swords, perhaps now there are only five. Gear circulation is not an insignificant part of the game.
My 2 cents.
