Correct me if I'm wrong but Jumbel was with 2 evil Villagers. 2 Goodie non-mages attacked the 2 evil Villagers.
Yeah, Jumbel could have jumped in the fight and would have been within his right to do so to because they attacked his group, but then someone would bitch about his lack of parity, even still.
Instead he chose to let the 2 Villagers fight their own fight on even odds. The enemies weren't mages. Tablet is pretty clear that mages are the enemy. Not magic items or warriors wielding them.
If you, as a Villager, were to attack a warrior because he used magic items you probably wouldn't be a Villager for very long*. That was Jerry type reasoning and why he often got booted for battle.
*Just a caveat here that there might be a situation or two where this could be acceptable but in general it is not. An acceptable situation I could think of if some warrior was purposefully taunting you with magic items (quaffing in your face, etc.) and after repeated verbal warnings he/she still didn't quit.
