surrounding darkness. Off the western edge of the path heaps of dull stone 
and rotted timbers rise from the ashes, the debris impossible to move around
or over. A large archway of heavily corroded and scarred stone opens onto the
ruins of a large dome, just paces south of the path.

  Jagged stone from both sides close in on the narrow path, tightening the space
even more. On the eastern side of the path it is the nearly black dull stone of
a mountain that intrudes on the path which follows along its base. The western
edge of the path is lined by the stone of a wall of rubble, pieces of dark wood
rotted and shattered visible in the mass. Over everything a layer of fine gray
ash has settled, kicked up into the air at the slightest movement. Surrounded 
by a foreboding darkness, the path moves on to the north and south, vanishing
into the gloom within paces.

curtain at your slightest movement. Rising from the surrounding darkness, a
jagged mountain face looms over you to the east, swallowed by the black veil
above you long before its peak is in sight. Piles of dull shattered stone and
rotted timbers mark the other edge, spilling onto the path as it turns to the
south and east. To the north an expanse of ash and a thick sludge of similar
color lies before you, fading from sight as it too is swallowed by the ever
present darkness.

from her belt hangs an overs-sized cross-peened hammer. The
set of her shoulders conveys that hard work has conditioned
her to withstand grueling hours battling metal and heat and
the vicissitudes of the open road.

The braids of her orange beard are woven back in a cascade of
fire into the hair sticking all akimbo from her helm, and beneath
singed eyebrows are startling blue eyes made bloodshot perhaps by
too much smoke. Her teeth are bared perpetually, but whether in a
grin or grimace or mental deformity you cannot be sure.

Strung over her pack you see a string of bells, and their constant
ringing means you will always know when she is about.
