  Constructed of great slabs of closely fitted stone, a wide and well-
traveled road runs to the east and west here.  Desert vegetation grows
in thick clumps, clinging to life in the dry and sandy soil.  A cloud of
mist and the faint roaring of rushing water rise from the midst of a rift
in the rocky cliffs that climb steeply to the north, binding the raging
torrent of the Khalid River as it flows south to the sea.  The endlessly
swirling Sands of Sorrow fill the horizon to the south, the high walls
and rounded towers of Hamsah Mu'tazz visible in the distance to the east.

Rising steeply to the north, the ground folds and wrinkles into a
wasteland of rocky cliffs and defiles, atop which crouches a dark and
forbidding wood.  The endlessly swirling Sands of Sorrow stretch
southward to the limit of the horizon.  The straight walls and rounded
towers of a sprawling city waver in the desert heat to the east.

An aura of cold fills this area, dropping the temperature below freezing.
