I was playing a Giant axe wielding warrior. Wield notched, dual notched, bash gnome (he had to enlarge to use inhale poison). Unless it landed, he did not last very long.

Hero it would no doubt be a different ball game, but pre-40 there was zero-risk for me vs. big risk for him.
