  A large wooden bar fills the entire southern wall.  Made of a rare red tree, 
it has been finely carved and oiled so that it shines in the dim light.  Food 
is scarce near here but mugs and cups of every kind crowd the bar and 
swing through the air for a toast.  Shelves behind the bar hold the rare 
ales and beers while large barrels sit stacked with the poorer drinks. 
Stools are scattered about for people to sit, but most stand so they can 
stomp and dance when the moment takes them.  A large tapestry hangs 
over the shelves behind the bar.  People swarm in and crowd, pressing to 
be nearer, calling out drinks and stumbling to hold on to their own.  To 
the north the crowd swirls, dancing and singing in a common area.  Eastwards, 
patrons cheer and groan noisily and long tables filled with food lie 
west.

Before you stands a tall, gaunt man, clad in the robes of a mystic.  He wears 
his graying hair tied back, clear of his face, and you note that his skin is
well-cared for, unusual for this land, and more so for a man of his advanced 
age.  Not attractive by any means, his graces stem more from the careful, almost 
practiced, way he carries himself.  Your eyes are drawn more towards his robes, 
for they are both elegant and unusual.  An intricate pattern of red and blue 
weaves itself through the garment, blended to a series of symbols and glyphs.  
Prominent among these are a circle about a center, a crescent, a circle above a
cross, a circle conjoined with an arrow, intertwined serpents, a scythe, and a

crescent rune... it seems newer than the others, and woven of a beautiful light
gray thread that shimmers in the light.  Various astronomical signs have been 
embroidered into his belt, which serves to support a surprising variety of 
small pouches and obscure instruments.  Prominent among the signs is a stylized
sentinel figure, its spear held aloft.  A lightweight traveler's journal bound 
in a curious skin of some sort hangs at his left hip, and its surface seems 
nearly covered by runes, carvings, and symbolism.
