  The ground here is rough and dark shadows are cast upon it by the cluster of
clouds that span the broad, mountain skies.  Along the edge of this path is
dead vegetation, the weather constantly beating harsh forces against the
terrain along this range of mountains.  Coming from the valley you notice
that this path gradually rises, perhaps towards the band of trees in the
distance.  Other than ruts in the ground this path seems rarely traveled.

Inside the Temple
  From the outside, this place appears rather small, yet finding yourself
within this temple proves your initial thought to have been a misconception.
It is a vast hut, set before stone.  In the corners you can see where the
wooden walls give way to carved rock.  To the east and west of you, small
tunnels head off into darkness.  A large ramp veers to the south towards an
altar and an open pit.  Unlike many other places in this village, this place
was carefully constructed, and is well attended to.  Low chants can be heard
from deeper within.

A furry creature with yellow eyes stares at you from behind a low snarl.

  You find yourself standing before a small wooden structure.  Like the other 
buildings in this village it is made from the trunks of trees and thick rope;
however, this building seems to have been constructed with a bit more reverence
than the others.  The trunks have been placed firmly together, and dried mud
has been used to seal off the breaks to keep the rain out.  A large, thick,
red curtain serves as a door, blocking your immediate view of the inside.
Framing the door is a variety of bones placed into the shapes of strange
symbols.  A massive skull is set upon the edge of the roof, seemingly
grinning as you approach.

  The tall mountain curves here, its massive, jutting side seems to block these

rocky and a bit treacherous, but possible to navigate.  The air here is cool,
and battered bones and rags lay upon the ground causing you to believe that
many orcs likely use this area for shade.  To the north, you see a long
path heading up the mountain and to the south there seems to be a small
temple.  Heading west would take you towards the center of the village.

  This path leads from the mouth of a large cavern and towards the village.
Along the sides of this path skulls of various creatures are set upon
poles as a grizzly decoration.  Many of these skulls appear to be humanoid,
some small and delicate like those of elves and others large like the thick
head of giants.  The cavern looks foreboding, the mouth reaching a span of
twenty-five feet in height.  The path, though jagged, has been traveled a
great deal, worn away by the passing of many orcs.  The surrounding mountains
cover this path in nearly perpetual shade.

Between Two Intersections
  You stand on a small path between two intersections.  The ground is at last 
becoming a bit drier compared to the soggy ground of the path that lead
you here.  To the east of you, the mountain rises up, jutting into the vast
sky.  You also come to notice a small path, leading towards a cave.  West
would lead you towards a large intersection and some wooden structures set
in the mud.

A Worn Intersection
  Two paths in the village meet here.  To the north, you can see a small
hut and a large boulder, a terrible stench emanates from this direction.
Guttural voices and thick steam rolls from this here, and an arid dampness
keeps your brow covered in sweat.

A Muddy Track
  This sloppy street runs east and west through the village.  Muck and
offal marks the ground and jagged rocks make footing a bit difficult.
Trash lays strewn about the ground and upon some ends of the path are
rotted carcasses.  Every step you take seems to squish deeply into the
ground, the rainwater and muck soiled with the vegetation.  To the east
you see a convergence of trails and a mountain in the distance.  West will
take you toward the gate.

A Muddy Track
  This slippery, muddy track runs to the east and west.  Litter is abundant
in the entire area, pieces of rotten vegetables lay rotting in the mud.
Broken branches and ends of rope are scattered about.  The ground is rough
with deep holes from the amount of orcs that have tread this path.  To the
north you see a large wooden structure with a thatched roof and to the south
you can hear the barks and squeals of some animals.

  The mud clings to your feet, every step slurping into the ground.  This
track runs in a general east and west direction.  There is a break in the
litter and rubble to the south, forming a path towards two very short
buildings.  You see the south wall of the barracks to the north, but no
break in the wall to allow access.  The general hum of orcish life fills
the air.

  It appears as though many people have passed through the gates to tread
this path. Following the main entrance to this village, the path is worn
away by the figures whom inhabit this village. Thick with mud, the ground
is littered with rotted skull heads and broken carcasses.  Upon glancing at
your surroundings, you notice that some buildings have wooden pikes with
skulls upon the tips, embedded into the ground.  The gate of this tribal
village is to the west, while to the east the main path continues.

  The smell of tainted meat and sweat greets you as you take your first
steps inside the palisade.  Before you lays a village of utter squalor
and filth. Westward is the freedom and beauty of a vast forest, which
may seem a tempting trek while standing in entrance of this large village.
Thick rolling clouds lay before this village of guttural voices and harsh
living standards.  The village stretches further to the east, where passing
orcs glare at you warily.

  Mud-ridden tracks lead you to the gate of this weatherworn palisade.
The large barricade appears poorly constructed, comprised of large sharpened
tree trunks cast together with thick rope.  Upon the gate, a large cattle
skull decorated with feathers and a torn crimson war banner rests, serving as
the standard for a brutal tribe of warriors behind these decaying gates.
You can see an eerie haze of fog rising from behind the structure, along with
the harsh sounds of village life.  Carved along the face of a timber which
serves as part of this construct are small words written in an odd language.
The tall wooden palisade stretches further to the north and south while the
trodden path continues eastward through the gates.

  Drifting in the wind are large banners that display the scene of war and
the brutal lifestyle of the tribesmen that inhabit the palisade to the east.
Upon the ground are skeletal remains of creatures that dwell in this mountain
range.  Some are the lions and goats that roam these hills others the dwarven
skullcaps from the nearby village of Akan.  Posted on rotted spears are tufts
of scalp and heads of slain foes, many of which have rotted to reveal the
skeletal face of vanquished foes.  Large timbers lay upon the ground, used
to continue the construction of this poorly made palisade.  Thrown against
the edge of the stack of timbers is the broken form of an elven ranger,
brutally beaten and torn apart.  It is obvious that the creatures who did
this have little regard for life.

  You come to a ridge along this mountainside.  The ground flattens out here
and becomes slightly weatherworn and broken in.  Loose rubble mills the
open ground and a larger cliff face towers further to the north.  The wind
seems to have died slightly but that only serves to allow the scent of
unbathed filth to mingle in the air.  A filthy bestial hide lays in a
stain of blood along the ground and the broken shaft of a spear is strewn
along the floor.  It appears as if this range of mountains is inhabited
after all.

A Path Along the Broken Wood
  This path continues along a span of trees that stretch a great distance to
the east.  Littering the path are chopped trees and torn branches.  Every
now and then you catch a glimpse of crudely made axes used to cut deep into
these weather-beaten trees.  Other than the harsh sound of the wind you
hear nothing other than your own heart beating.  Carved into a broken tree
to the south is the image of a skull with blood smeared upon the bark of
the tree.  An odd sight that shows someone inhabits these woods.

  Coming before a small junction you notice the split in the path and the
change in terrain.  Here the winds have become less fierce and the path
has turned east along the timbers of a forest and north along a long,
rising ridge.  The skies to the west have grown darker though along
this northern face of the mountain there seems to be an even darker
presence.  The ground has become littered with loose rock, but it has
not become so treacherous that it cannot be traversed upon.

  The chill winds no longer pound against this side of the mountain.  Instead
the smell of fire and filth permeates the air.  Along the eastern crest of
these hills rises smoke and to the west the dark clouds churn in the angry
dark sky.  The path you manage to follow has become broken and littered with
rocky debris.  Very little sound can be heard but it is quite possible the
shape you saw dart along this ridge was a mountain lion.  To the east opens
a span of trees.
