Starting from your low levels, really skilled rangers always stick to wilderness areas.

That being said, he drove you out to a road where you get 0 perks from your ranger skills. Once that happened, you were completely fucked - you should be glad he didn't have the ability to entwine you.

Especially against warriors, make sure whichever direction he drives you will be a wilderness.

Also, a cursed weapon would help. Even moreso, a non-physical damage weapon. I guarantee that your attacks would be disembowels through his resistance, at the very least, with something like a shadowy spear.

Oh and preps. I think you can use staves? At the very least, stoneskin. I'm guilty of being lazy with preps myself when it comes to individual potions...but it really does help.
