If, in your scenario, that rager didn't have resistance, he would have been dead before those deathblows at the end. Which is why I say it is more powerful... More predicitble is what I consider more powerful. Deathblow is only luck on their side, resistance is guaranteed time for them to try to get that deathblow off. That's basically why I see it as their most powerful ability. It doubles their life expectancy.
