I think giving a shot at leadership, especially for new players, really helps them learn the game.

Take it seriously - rp well, lead well, and kick ass. You'll be surprised at how much you will learn.

My first leader was Rektath - after him, I'd like to say that I begin my rampage of above par quality characters.
