The reason for that is quite simple though. Saying "I'll come over to your place on april the 6th" doesn't work very well gramatically in Swedish. (And it sounds weird too!)
That's why we have a hard time following these stupid Americans and their weird date/time (use the 24h system for christers sake!) whatsajiggie.

And the year/month/day thing is from the fact that our social security number is based on when we were born i.e 87/07/07 (meaning july 7th 1987).

PS: I'm Swedish too!
