Personally, if there are cabalmates around I'll announce it when I kill someone and when someone kills me. If I see a competent enemy in my PK range die I'll also ask him what killed him.
Not really trying to brag or bitch, just trying to get a feel for who is killing who with what. If a guy in my pk range got assassinated, I'll know to watch out for an assassin. If a powerhouse shaman whose beaten me every single matchup dies, I want to know who killed him with what - it helps me become a better pker.
Its especially helpful when my cabalmates announce this stuff, cause then if I see them kill someone I have trouble against, I can ask for tips. Or if they die to someone I find simple to beat, I can offer them advice. Its also helpful for knowing where your enemies are ("we almost killed him in azuremain, but he worded out~") and how well they are doing ("it appears this a-p has recently imbued his weapon with a enchantment of lightning, be wary when you fight him") and any miscellaneous assets they might have ("The bard had a young healer following him around, and slew both of us at at the centurions.")
I feel that the size of the e-peen is really secondary to these sorts of announcements, they just really give me a much better idea of the flow of the game.
