Your character was being created when the reboot happened, and so when the game autosaved, it saved you as far as it had written to your file...which was obviously before it got very far into the process. I'm assuming some of the things it picked are probably just #1 on a list of races, classes, etc, so lacking anything decided in the MUD's side, it picked the first option it had as a save.
