Your character was very sub-optimal in many respects. Spec/legacy choices, gear choices, tactics, etc. A well-built RBW shouldn't have much to fear from a lone AP, even one with 50-75 charges, unless caught unprepared. Then again the cautious and prepped AP isn't going to die either. Just keep trying until he makes a mistake - your life is cheaper than his. He'll take more than 100 hours to get his weapon/gear back, you'll take 1 hour or less.
See how some other players maximise their damage/maledict output in fights - marcus is a prime example. Read his logs as Elgroth, Djabree, and study them. He squeezes in backhands in between enemies' moves, waits to maximise trip or cranial lag, etc. He does not spam.
It's ok to be a newbie, but the best newbies learn really fast. I remember when alex was a newbie - took him only 1 or 2 characters to start dominating.
I won't comment on what counts as a 'super AP', because I've never played an AP. But I've never found APs below 100 charges to be particularly tough if I'm playing a power combo (ANY RBW should be built to be a power combo because of parity demands). The two which gave me lots of trouble were Gzurweeg (I was Humbert) and Ravon (I was Lyriana).
