Yea, it can be rather stupid from a player POV. Not sure if you had a commander before - almost every commander I've been under (and with my commanders) have viewed circle challenges as sacred. Almost as sacred as the tablet. It is what it is - you get resistance and cool shit, but if you're called to the circle, unless you have a really fantastic awesome reason (95% of the time you don't), you better get your ass hauling to the circle.

If I were those guys, I would've gone to the circle, beat on Zark, then challenged him again in the circle for being such a nutter butter.
