So I've been considering doing a little moonlighting for some extra cash. Most of the online sites for this type of stuff you compete with foreigners who will work for $5/hr or less. At topcoder it works a bit differently. You and maybe 5-6 other people basically compete and whoever has the best design wins the prize. There's usually also a second place prize. Anyways, if you win first place you also get a small share of the royalties on the component you wrote. I checked out some of the open competitions and for the ones where I'm familiar with all the technologies involved it seems like a couple of days work and a potential $800-1000 prize. I was just curious if anyone else had tried it.
