So my dad passed away a few months ago. Long story short, our lawyer sucks.. and I'm too far away to do anything directly about THAT just yet.

Anyways, he got a divorce a few months before he died. Part of the divorce settlement was that he was to give his ex-wife a certain amount of cash, in exchange for keeping their house. Since he died before he made that one-time payment, does that debt fall to whoever inherits his estate, or is it just a loss to the ex-wife? Our lawyer can't give a straight answer, and can barely even be contacted so he's no help.
