It does strike me a bit odd that profanity is such a big deal in the US.

Guess its just difference in culture. In the part of norway where I came from, it was actually taken up in court and approved that its considerd "part of the culture in this region", thus we are now allowed to call policemen something along the lines of "horsecock".
