Yes, you may be able to get unempowered by other immortals than the one that empowered you. This is by design and part of the reason there is a paladin code.

Re: Wearing evil gear to remind you of evil, if this is such an important part of your character's roleplaying, couldn't you take the whole minute it would take to type:

role + will always try to wear exactly one piece of evil gear to remind him of blah blah blah.
