Based on this helpfile, I don't see any problem with a Maran Paladin breaking a law to destroy a necromancer. I also think you're all a bit too literal. The more we limit the possibilities of what a character can or cannot do, the less decent roleplaying we're going to see. However, if you enjoy cookie-cutter personalities, then you're on the right track to ensuring them in the future. And no, I don't think a couple of quirks alone makes a character's roleplay original.
