A lot of people mistakenly think that cabal trumps align. That is to say, to a battlerager the "goodie" path is to kill mages always. It's very clear that this isn't true, or else a lot of duergar and fire giant ragers would be more "good" than svirf or storm ragers and have to be align changed.
In my opinion, a goodie rager that strikes a goodie mage at any point is cruising for epic failure from the goodie side (though from a rager side he's fine). Evil mages are desirable and neutral mages, especially neutral ones trying to kill you (re: nexus) are okay. A goodie rager should be something like a guy who is conflicted about his choices and certain that he is doing the wrong thing, but doesn't see a better way. Following the lesser of two evils, shall we say.
To add: I've only seen one or two players play out goodie rager in a way that doesn't contradict itself, and both of them flamed out hella early.
