when they eat lag instead of being lagged it ticks up a counter, when that counter gets high enough the victim is rendered helpless (like snare/sleep/spinebreaker) and combat is disengaged.

keep in mind that if you have the horde you can't really use spinebreak because the horde is not actually in your group, they will auto-attack like regular mobs and can fight anyone in any range.
