There is not point in practicing any weapons other than H2H or any of the defenses like parry/dodge. I made that mistake. That said, until Transcend, you won't be competitive. And until Intensify it is hard to stay in combat. Your strikes and avoiding gets better when you are intensifying. There is a huge drawback though...

Their only defense is avoid. However you must practice all your weapon skills to avoid them better.

I'm not even sure about lesser degree. I played few assassins and fighting mace/axe specs was always so VERY different from fighting sword/dagger/spear/hth specs. (n/t)
