This is generally how I have seen hero range go, from the perspective of someone who usually aims for age death over many months.
I'd say the average "generation" in Thera last about 45-60 days for the majority of players.
This means you'll see mostly new faces at hero about every 2 months.
If you find it boring to fight largely the same enemies every log in for a month, then you'll probably delete out of boredom.
Other people tend to get bored with their own char, for RP reasons, not as PK viable, or whatever.
That said, if you stick with a char for a long time, it can be rather fun to see all the generations of characters come and go.
When I did Nexus, I gauged generations by Commanders of Battle, and I think I saw about 4 in 8 or 9 months.
The other perk of longevity is players know your char, and that often comes out when they roll a new char.
Some people will go out of their way to RP with you if it was favorable with their last, other's roll characters because they want to be on your team, and then of course some hold grudges.
The main perk of hero though.
No skill practicing, no ranking, no real tedium unless you are a rampant prep whore. You can pretty much go anywhere and do anything, which is why I like hero range more than anything else.
