Again, if you role-play then I'd expect to get promoted within 1 week and/or 30 game hours of the point at which you meet all the necessary criteria, i.e. 10 ePKs and level 40+.
Some stats from recent maran:
Lithodora: hit level 40 on August 3 w/ 107 hours and 18 ePKs. Promoted on August 13 w/ 134 hours. So 5 days and 27 hours.
Koob: became a squire on May 4 w/ 80 hours at level 51. Promoted on June 17 w/ 171 hours w/ 8 ePKs. So ~43 days and 91 hours, but he didn't have the requisite PKs.
Eliara: hit level 40 on July 1 w/ 90 hours and ~26 ePKs. Promoted on July 1 w/ 92 hours. So 0 days and 2 hours.
Luthantulas: hit level 40 on June 7 w/ 93 hours and 12 ePKs. Promoted on June 9 w/ 117 hours. So 2 days and 24 hours.
Adesoka: hit level 40 on Mach 18 w/ 48 hours and 2 ePKs. Promoted on April 3 w/ 120 hours and 4 ePKs. So ~15 days and 72 hours, but he didn't have the requisite PKs.
Corzu: hit level 40 on March 8 w/ 63 hours and 6 ePKs. Promoted on April 10 w/ 127 hours and 18 ePKs. So ~32 days and 64 hours.
Vhalorn: hit level 40 on December 28, 2014 w/ 101 hours and ~19 ePKs. Promoted January 3 w/ 142 hours. So 5 days and 41 hours. (Wow dude; 8 hours/day?)
Leata: hit level 40 on Nov 20, 2014 w/ 89 hours and ~9 ePKs. Promoted December 7, 2014 w/ 134 hours and ~10 ePKs. So ~18 days and 45 hours, which might be about when the character finally got the 10th ePK.
Ardorn: hit level 40 on August 31, 2014 w/ 34 hours and 1 ePK. Promoted October 6 w/ 95 hours and 8 ePKs. So ~36 days and 61 hours, but he didn't have the requisite PKs.
My take away from this:
1. If you don't have much PK success but keep trying you will *eventually* get Maran, but it will take you significantly longer than if you were PK-effective.
2. If you *are* PK-effect then you get promoted shortly after you hit level 40 and have >= 10 ePKs. The one outlier is Corzu. Not sure why they made him wait so long. He did convert from neutral to good, though, so maybe that's why.
3. The one caveat here is that the folks who gave up and deleted before being made maran probably didn't buy their PBFs, so they're not represented here.
4. If you are the kind of player who has a reasonable shot at making the Imperial Council (or possibly even making elite status) then you will probably make leader in Fortress unless you have a shit attitude and/or non-existent role-play.
