that's asinine

The attempts of certain media groups to explain macro economics through kindergarten analogies are why people have no fucking clue what's going on in the world.

You want a slightly better analogy?

Man sells millions of light bulbs, gets rich.
Man uses money to bankrupt other, smaller lightbulb companies.
Man raises prices on lightbulbs to $1 because there is no competition left.
Man gets even richer.
Man lobbies government to pass laws helpful to himself.
Man gets even richer.
Man shifts his income to offshore holding companies so he pays no taxes.
Man gets even richer.

The whole time, the other guy is now paying extra for light bulbs because the rich guy has all of the power in the system.

Nurok December 29, 2015 03:56AM

Murphy December 29, 2015 04:27AM

Kstatida December 29, 2015 03:57AM

Nurok December 29, 2015 04:16AM

Well I asked the IMMs about the ad campaign and they said that rating bring very few players and the ads in MUD clients are much better (n/t)

Mazura December 29, 2015 06:23AM

It was on the Gameplay forums (n/t)

Mazura December 29, 2015 06:23AM

There HAVE been lots of new players. Where the heck are they coming from? (n/t)

dubs December 29, 2015 06:36AM

Mazura December 29, 2015 10:52AM

He's Russian. Are you surprised he thinks voting is pointless? (n/t)

Rhyaldrin December 29, 2015 04:22AM

Voting being pointless is not a russia only thing. Winning the popular vote but losing the electoral college..LOL (n/t)

Nurok December 29, 2015 04:37AM

electoral college explained

Dragonsbane December 30, 2015 04:09AM

If you have to explain it - it's broken. (n/t)

Kstatida December 31, 2015 03:06AM

Seriously...Look at calculus. The stuff just doesn't work and we should get rid of it. (n/t)

orbain December 31, 2015 03:14AM

From my (somewhat biased) point of view

Kstatida December 31, 2015 06:00AM

Don't get me wrong

orbain December 31, 2015 06:12AM

I was not referring to complexity in itself

Kstatida December 31, 2015 08:19AM

Re: I was not referring to complexity in itself

Dragonsbane January 05, 2016 08:30AM

that's asinine

silatar January 05, 2016 08:47AM

This is also a misleading concept from a number of angles

orbain December 29, 2015 06:17AM

Electoral college has value in an ideal world. The idea was based on the understanding that most people aren't competent enough to be voting. (n/t)

Artificial December 29, 2015 06:38AM

It's value has changed with time

Quas December 31, 2015 06:27AM

Who decides who's competent?

Kstatida December 29, 2015 10:30AM

The system was implemented by the founders when most people could not read and were generally ignorant and thus should not be voting. (n/t)

Artificial December 31, 2015 04:07AM

Void argument

Kstatida December 31, 2015 05:33AM

Most people are ignorant and should not be voting. (n/t)

Artificial December 31, 2015 05:36AM

Void argument. Voting is not about getting the best option

Kstatida December 31, 2015 05:49AM

They still get to vote. It just doesn't mean as much. (n/t)

Artificial December 31, 2015 05:55AM

Absolutely, hence the effect is reduced, hence current discussion. (n/t)

Kstatida December 31, 2015 08:22AM

I'm on the fence about the EC. I don't claim its completely pointless, just pointing out that while it exists there is no point in even referencing popular vote. (n/t)
