Having spent a lot of time there in the late 90s and early 00's both as a mortal leading and being part of groups as well as a heroimm, back when they let heroimms do fun shit, I ended up being somewhere in the middle. I knew more than almost anyone about rare or never seen things, especially down on levels 7-9, from the heroimm time (once, Shokai and I had fun testing out fighting Satan) but made sure never to use that knowledge with a mortal. The problem I had, as I had with Silent Tower, is that while a fair amount of the fun of the game is getting cool stuff that is rare or unique and that others don't have, it also becomes a bit of a playground for a very, very, very select few, who gain non-trivial advantages that almost nobody can compete with or survive against. I read logs now and things like that flute (which I remember from back in the day) just don't seem worth it from a gameplay perspective. You can make that player very happy with a no-disarm, high-level, cool maledict or regular damage prog, without having the crazy extra special powers it now has.
In short: Pandora's box. I think the boxes should be more shallow.
