Originally, there never was a requirement for pks for any of the cabals. The "applicant of battle" was originally just an addition to help out applicants so they could see invis, and help them with recommendations from other members. (Since sometimes they would ask for body parts of mages, and well damn if one didn't drop or decomposed before you could find that member again). But then a leader made it a requirement that you had to have the flag PLUS recommendations. And that stuck because the next leader kept the same requirments...and so on till It became "That's how its always been done".

The maran one kind of just happened that way as well. There never was a requirement for a pk kill before one of the leaders. Then that stuck and has been that way ever since. Personally there shouldn't be one to become a squire, the pk requirments should kick in for the full MARAN.
