I took warded familiar (for the damage-vuln, low-hp owl) but niether of the other two because having such a vulnerable familiar near me was a... vulnerability.

It was above Overcome distortion and Remain conscious on my edge list. It only appeared near Hero (about lvl 45+ if I had to guess).

I also discovered that although you can release it in the air, ALL airforms are faster than your familiar and fleeing lags them. Beware :P
