I remember Yvalthras, Elf tribunal warrior, using maces and daggers.
I have used polearms successfully with Elves, Felar, and Arial. I really
think you could do it with almost any race successfully. Giant is definately
the path of the least resistance though.

The key is to gear and prep towards your base strategy. . There are a
ton of preps out there that will help you no matter what race you chose.
