Personally, I refuse to play elves and dark-elves because I don't like the concept at all. I play fire giants and orcs because I LIKE playing fire giants and orcs. Even if I don't put a whole lot of effort into the roleplay, fire giants are just funner for me because of their role in Thera. If it was all about the bash I'd play storms and clouds too. But I don't.
In the past, most people wouldn't play elves or dark elves even if they liked the idea because they thought they would get owned in PK. Now it's the other way around, but the problem is basically the same.
Edit: In short, the changes and the abuse of them aren't fair to those who enjoy playing low dex races.
