CarrionFields is a competitive game, and therefore people look for every advantage they can find to sue against their opponents. Preps, quests, equipment, allies, area knowledge, etc. all have the potential to change a fight. Packing one area full of stuff that makes “playing to win†a lot easier and then expecting people not to talk about it in at atmosphere like CF is a big risk, especially when that area is only available so long as everyone play by the rule that we all keep our mouth shut.
Most players are perfectly willing to divulge a little bit here and there about questy things IC. A lot of them are perfectly willing to do it OOC, too. The only difference between what Shadowmaster did and what goes on IC is that Shadowmaster did it on a much larger scale really quickly. Regardless of how the info gets out, once it does, be it slowly as people show all their IC (or OOC) buddies or through a leak like before, once the info is out the area is ruined. Once enough people know the information becomes less useful and the content of the area is likely to change.
Even without the leaks like what Shadowmaster caused, areas like Silent Tower simply don't work in CF unless their creators are fine with having to constantly refresh the puzzles so that every now and again the common knowledge becomes less common. The benefits of the area are just too nice to having floating around and/or being used all the time by lots of people.
The other reason areas like Silent Tower can be lame is because, lets face it, there is a lot of crap in that area that we all damn well know would only be known to one person, even today, if he hadn't bothered explaining to at least one other person that avoid certain death / get the uber item / open the secret door you have to pull on the statues dick at 4pm while facing north and peeing in the red fountain while you juggle six jars of Cabdru-semen and recite the runeword for “pwnâ€.
