On Acolytes: I see this as a Highly RP based choice for people who don't want to, or cant PK well enough to get noticed as a Squire to become a Maran. I've had a bunch of Squires and one or two acolytes as most people by now know. I've tried a few other cabal's, but non-good just isn't in my RP range right now, and I enjoy RP more than I do game mechanics and PK.(Probably because I'm not very good at the latter). I've seen a few acolytes who do a very respectable job at it. I've seen a few Maran who do a very admirable job at it. Rambling, I stop on this point, cause it's the second I really wanted to address anyways.
On the Tiered Promotion system in the Fortress. This I agree with more and more. I think nerfing squires powers puts them on par with uncaballed players. The Dam Redux on Mantle is very nice as a Squire, and I noticed a significant difference tanking with my Halfie Assassin as a result of it, but when you have more powers afforded to full members of the other cabals much earlier, it's kind of hard to compete sometimes unless you are just that good that the powers wouldn't make a difference any more anyways. I'd like to see some type of Tiering in Fortress, but I'll probably still keep playing there anyways.
