The vast vast majority of programmers are just integrators (myself included). I don't do any heavy thinking, I just put all the pieces together and try to have enough foresight to make sure its something that can be maintained and operated and scaled.

It's more engineering than science. You're taking existing science and putting it to practical use. NT
