Judging from what I know the problem is just as often in gathering them rather than finding them.

I recently decided to do something about my wand knowledge and rolled a mage. Since I knew 3-4 locations from playing non-mages and witnessing/helping mages get theirs, I went to exchange info with others and it went much better than I expected. People would even give me hints for free.

I only explored to get DA, and then to get comfortable with a certain area explore that I had old logs of being led around in. Mostly I just talked to people, and it worked.

Just one month spent, and so much learned. Try it.
