Played drow explorer/marsh to hero

Excellent survivability, literally nothing can kill you if you don't want it to. On the other hand, you can't finish anyone except probably for insects. I was uncaballed due to a role concept, just weren't enough people around to support it (low chance of engagement), so I suggest outlander and pray for insects.

Pluses:
Tanked storms from about 38 to hero, soloing most of 40's, never died in PK
Stuff/spear spews poison and plague
Herbs (with edges) cure everything and to full health and replenish fast
Not afraid of any maledictions
Can actually solo 1-51 without much pain
Can explore any wild places and some civilized (although limited)
The God of Veran (and any other marsh/jungle)

Minuses:
Not a PK build at all - can't kill anyone. "Beat" - sure, but not kill.
Low str - can't wield two axes and go to town, also creates dodge issues if carrying too much.
Good gear is limited and usually hard to acquire.
Obviously not as good in civilized, albeit a contender with haste and (P)ASS (protection, aura, shield, stone skin). But not to actually finish people off.
Pass + haste is the easiest to acquire and have always at the ready out of any combos I ever played.

Got bored and deleted after being at hero for some time. If there were 100 chars on, I'd keep playing. As is, uncaballed is just too boring.

You forgot craptastic camo in plains. God I hated that as marshdweller.

Tadam October 10, 2012 02:45PM

No not, not step out as in bad creep. I mean my hunter/marsh guy flat out couldn't camo in plains half the time.

Matrik October 10, 2012 02:56PM

Yep. Fits my experience playing 3 marshdwellers. NT

Sam October 10, 2012 03:14PM

Yeah, that's why I was wondering about explorer/marsh, if that somehow helped. I can't tell from his answer. (n/t)

Thanks (n/t)

Matrik October 11, 2012 01:28PM

BTW, how'd you like hunter marshdweller?

Sam October 10, 2012 05:32PM

Short lived, like all my chars. He was fun as hell and I had a really unique role. My first and probably only ever battle character (scout). (n/t)

Matrik October 10, 2012 10:54PM

If you want to hurt yourself go svirf. (n/t)

semi_newbie October 09, 2012 07:43AM

Depends on what you mean by successful? You can definitely be a tankapottamus in the Underdark as a Drow Caverndweller.

Sam October 08, 2012 08:27PM

I prefer felar caverndweller rager over the other caverndwellers.

Gaplemo October 09, 2012 11:59PM

Did you ever shadowstride outside of caves? Was curious if that is explorer specific. (n/t)

Matrik October 10, 2012 07:31AM

Rebounding strike I think yes. Shadowstride I don't think so. (n/t)

Gaplemo October 10, 2012 08:09AM

Yeah, rebounding strike for sure indoors. Just not as good as in caves. Shadowstride wasn't sure about. Thanks. (n/t)

Not really. You'd be meat in the mountains to other rangers. In Forests you'd be alright, but you would most likely have to finesse it a lot.

Sam October 08, 2012 08:37PM

Class requires finesse, absolutely. Also, lots of tools (talismans, scrolls). You aren't meat to anyone though. Not sure why you think that. (n/t)

Uncaballed or outlander.

Matrik October 09, 2012 06:05AM

Last question.

japples October 09, 2012 06:28AM

Not really. Half-drow maybe.

Matrik October 09, 2012 07:02AM

Svirf.. Stone Skin + better HP. Downside being you're neutral. (n/t)

sevriis October 09, 2012 07:01AM

Downside being their shitty dexterity. You end up with barely more hp.

Matrik October 09, 2012 07:04AM

Meh. Dex isn't that big a deal, and doesn't make a lick of difference if you reduce.

sevriis October 09, 2012 09:55AM

Also, justy fyi, so no one gets confused. Explorer can bearcharge just fine. It's the caverndweller that sucks. (n/t)

Matrik October 09, 2012 10:14AM

Your statements make no sense.

Matrik October 09, 2012 10:04AM

I was talking about dodge. Being small is good for dodging, crappy for bearcharge. (n/t)

sevriis October 10, 2012 01:09AM

Ah, gotchya. (n/t)

Matrik October 10, 2012 06:08AM

Dammit, I want that quest form now. (n/t)

Kez October 08, 2012 08:29PM

anyone know what caverndweller skills fire with wanderlust? (n/t)

japples October 08, 2012 08:13PM

Shadowstride. My god shadowstride. It's fantastic. Evade everything, even communes? Thanks.

Matrik October 08, 2012 10:22PM

Seconded. Shadowstride + rebounding strike = awesomeness. Cavernfall is AMAZING when you're in a cave.

(vಠ_ಠ)> AngryFatKid October 08, 2012 10:46PM

I'd suggest explorer for either one...

joecloud October 08, 2012 06:44PM

Drow ranger has been done with great success before. (n/t)
