Traps are fun - but better for survival and chaos than pk'ing. But still fun.
I would go for a caballed character, since then you'll have people coming to a specific place often. And chaotic non-good, so you'll have a character who doesn't care about his traps hitting his friends/innocents, since you can't disarm your traps. (grouped or caballed will miss your traps).
So, not Empire, though you have enough enemies maybe not as big a deal, not Fort, not Trib. Outlander, you won't be able to experiment with traps sold by shoppies, there are many good ones.
So that leaves Scion, Nexus, and Ragers. Nexuns aren't chaotic, but let's face it, they don't care who they hurt anyway, so probably viable.
I would complement a trapper with the thug path or mystic path - you could pile up some serious maledictions. Don't go duergar - traps are hard to practice, and you have to get the % up to get the maledictions.
Oh last thing - don't set a ko trap and if they miss, then try to jack them. A missed KO trap (and what other kind is there?) sets the sleep protection timer. Vice versa too. Sucks.
You'll find the acid/blindess traps your best friend, because they negate dash/flyto/etc. Pepper dust is curable - last I heard, the 4-hr trap blindness still isn't. If it is, that really sucks too.
