That might have to do with the fact that I was playing drunk 100 percent of the time then, and so was able to roleplay a Whiysdan follower VERY easily. But it really depends on the Imm and how they reward things. Scarab and Akresius, long effort to get a reward, but a big reward. Others, the opposite.

PS. I don't actually believe that you're a newbie. Too many clues otherwise. But good on you otherwise. Rules and traditions of this board are silly anyway. If you've found a way to get around them for a time, good for you.
