"That's not gonna be everyone's cuppa tea. "
Of course, nobody said otherwise. Why do you feel as if you need to state this
or use it as a counterargument to what I wrote? It's irrelevant, at best.
"Often times being "optimal" and "having fun" are mutually exclusive, and I'm still of the mindset that if you're not having fun you're doing it wrong. "
Good. Who said anything about not having fun? Certainly not me.
Sometimes, it feels to me, as if one doesn't _read_ (or comprehend) what I write but instead
reacts emotionally to certain parts that one latches on which is what you're doing here.
"As for subjective opinions not furthering the argument, I'll just leave you with the following ones you interjected into the discussion: "
Again here, you're not reading what I wrote, instead you're picking and choosing what suits you.
This is what I wrote: Subjective opinions about *performance*
and by performance I'm referring to daurwyn's statements:
+ He's doing fine
+ He may not snowball
+ He is often the predator
Obviously, lots (most) of what gets discussed in this board, is subjective. But there is a *qualitative* difference
between statements of the sort daurwyn made and an argument of the sort I introduced in my initial
post, even though both are subjective. To me discussion about the 2nd seems far more productive (and useful).
So, so far you've posted to say that you don't agree with imaginary points I never made.
"If this player is having fun with his midbie Trib AP, give him advice on which spells to use, but don't tell him that he's basically doing the game wrong, and again, if he's having fun he's definitely not doing it wrong."
I offered my opinion and a method for doing things. If this isn't appreciated, lots of luck gentlemen!
You certainly didn't need to waste your & my time, in order to state the obvious.
Let me be crystal clear again:
I made an argument and introduced certain points. The base assumption that all my points depend on,
is *learning the most about the game in the shortest period of time*. You didn't have anything to say about this.
You could have come back and said "I don't think assassins are optimal, bards or xxx warriors are better because
bla bla bla". That would be great and would further the conversation in a useful way.
Instead you read things in my post that aren't there and you project and assume:
+ OP doesn't want to learn the most about the game in the shortest period of time
+ OP will find my method "not fun"
+ OP is currently having fun playing APs
+ If you're not having fun, you're doing it wrong. IT in this case is unqualified and so is having fun, examples:
If I spend 1 month not having fun in order to then spend 1+ years having a lot of fun is that still NOT OK in your book? You didn't say.
How about spending 3 months having lots of fun and then the next year or so hitting an invisible wall and all fun evaporating? You didn't say.
So basically it's my one assumption that nobody tried to challenge vs your multiple ones (that some could even hold in this case).
If OP is so inclined or feels that my assumption doesn't hold he can simply ignore my advice.
I can't look into his mind and figure out his current situation but you seem to have
no problem doing exactly that, by making all those assumptions of yours and telling *me* not to conduct myself a certain way.
