Playing evil is easy, because evil = sellfish, and most of us are. For some reason people believe that "evil" = "cartoon villain who is stupid and mad", but that's nonsense. The epitome of evil is Dr. Moriarti from Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes. And mind you the character had nothing in common with modern TV series (Cumberbatch) Moriarti and Guy Ritchie's Moriarti.

He was evil because he was selfishly piling up power, with little regard to morals and laws. A feat which (surprise) is not considered to be "evil" in modern anglo-saxon world.
