Yes, I saw that vital attempt. Unclear how long he had and if he thought he was fighting, not Gibbah, but giving you the benefit of the doubt, that was probably a poor choice. Having said that, he didn't start the fight with you, it only came after the devil drew him into combat. More, after trying, and failing, that one vital, he never again attempted to touch you, he pummeled the devil and directed attacks only against it. To me that looks like he realized his mistake - which cost you nothing, he failed - and focused on the charmie.
So no, he wasn't perfect. But in a significantly less important and costing way, whereas your failure was of a core function of your job, and evidently not the first. To me it's not a fair comparison, which it seems you are trying to draw. If I were commander or drillmaster, I'd probably give a short "pay more attention" tell or two to Oth, with some colorful language, but nothing more seems appropriate. For you though, with your cabal, it would at least be demotion but perhaps just uninduct. Certain uninduct if it was not the first time you (character) clearly broke the rules.
