Normally you dealt with backfist by making it hard for the assassin to defend against you. And you did that by using mace or axe, since they couldn't parry that as well and hence would get beat down before backfist beat you down.

Now it's easier to dodge the weapons assassins don't know. So you'd potentially eat even more backfists if you went with mace.
