Ajanfindel was bitchslapped until he hit hero range. I could not prep enough to cover for racial hp limits. His enemies really did not need to prep much more than what you listed, because Ajanfindel only had about 40-45 damroll, which is nothing compared to most heavy hitters. If you watch Drissa's fights, he killed a lot of people who were not flying. Most of Aj's foes were consistently flying.
Ajanfindels strengths:
- Flow won more fights than StSF because it nuked direct attacks. StSF really only came into play when fighting shapeshifters or in a raid situation where I reengaged.
- Swiftstrike was as good or better than concealed. I tried to keep weight below 70%, but it was never above 75%
- because I prepped, I wanted people to attempt to bash me. The only time I enlarged was in the rare situation I wanted to try bash on someone who could recall or who refused to engage.
- Hand to Hand allowed AJ to keep weight down, to control fights to some extent, some burst damage, and lag against shaman and mages. It also meant he was not completely screwed when orcs grappled his weapons away.
- lightforge meant Ajan could pull out a spear for the rare porcupine and axe to mess with builds relying upon shields
- the orc panic strike (I don't know the proper name) often worked against orcs because they are easy to dodge and return a strike.
Weaknesses
- Ajanfindel could not hit Vantiglia (imperial arial dagger/mace) and he could out-maladict this build.
- Rock/Paper/Scissors approach to class balance: area attacks cannot be evaded/Flowed or dodged/concealed.
- Full offense/Glass cannons can kill a Striking elf if they get lucky--they do not normally have many hps, and you might catch them unprepped.
My advice to fight this build
1. you need to have high dps. Melee damroll, spell, or commune, but you want to pump out damage before STSF becomes a factor, and I followed Drissa's example and prepped for all fights. For most melee builds, hit and run against this build is not a viable option.
2. Have at last +12 str (hurl and artery), but you would be wise to cover your dex as well.
3. If you are a sword spec, keep your moves high. Hamstring can nuke a flurry, not just your ability to chase or get away.
4. You might hit a homerun with a flurry, but Flow of Shadows can turn that into four rounds of deep shit. Consider experimenting with jab or backhand. Assess the elf's stat coverage to determine if it is worth wasting rounds on a boneshatter or other maladictions.
5. Most orcs were vulnerable to the light weapons of a maran, but they had success when they could spinebreak (heal, prep, and let elf's preps wear off) or grapple weapon. Getting the dagger out of his hands will cut down on free attacks.
6. If you do not have the ability to recall, gamble for the orb of travel. I usually would try to sneak in the phoenix brand after STSF charged up rather than at the beginning of a fight, and so you need to be able to bail reliably when things take a bad turn.
