It seems just a reactionary: 'I have sway over courage so I'll punish him with this'.

Slaying him and taking the ring back, if it means that much to her, would have been much more appropriate. What does cursing him have to do with anything? He still has the ring, and now he has a character flaw he really doesn't deserve. So not only is it questionable RP, but no one really benefits by it at all.
