Perhaps we have different definitions of the word "skill"
For example, Vallinane had a remarkably easy time beating even skilled and experienced bards. This wasn't because Vallinane was more skilled than the strongest bards of his time, but because bards are an exceedingly poor matchup against binders. Skill had almost nothing to do with it - they could do very little to threaten me, and I could do a very great deal to threaten them.
Similarly, if I wanted to beat a rager, I would not rely on skill, I would instead roll up a scion a/b/s invoker or a bard or something. Or I would roll with a gank. Or both at once. Either way, I don't consider such solutions "skill" that beats a villager. A skilled player beats villagers because he knows how to powergame it, picking favorable matchups (ganks) and avoiding unfavorable ones (most fights)
To put it another way, if you want success against villagers you should be playing like Eleagra, not playing like Yarglen. And while I thought Eleagra was a good character, I would rather everyone play like Yarglen and still have a fighting chance.
